Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology
The Department of Microbiology is one of the oldest microbiological establishments in Russia.
Bacteriological Station of the Kazan Veterinary Institute founded the Department of Microbiology, which was formed in 1892 at the Department of epizootiology. Thus, being legally formalized in 1917, in fact, it has worked since 1892.
The educational process at the Department is traditionally based on reading the series of lectures, conducting laboratory and practical exercises using computer technology in the following disciplines:
In the course of these disciplines the specific questions on general and special microbiology, virology and immunology and the practical application of knowledge are introduced. At the heart of learning the instructional techniques are used, allowing to develop students' ability for the material self-absorption, as well as to master the basics of scientific research. The knowledge review in practical classes is conducted by the oral and computer-test survey.
Scientific direction of the department for several years was to study the antimicrobial action of vegetable and animal origin, especially propolis.
In recent years, scientific research in the department devoted to the ecology of microorganisms due to changes in technology, livestock, and microbiological monitoring of old anthrax graves on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan, the development of effective new drugs and diagnostic immunogenesis stimulation at certain infectious diseases.
