Department of Physiology
Physiology began to be taught at the Academy in 1874, the Physiological Laboratory was established in 1904 and the Department of Physiology - in 1910.
The following subjects are being taught at the Department: Physiology and Ethology of Animals, Basics of Physiology, Morphology and Physiology of the Farm Animal, Methods of Research. Also some Special courses are being taught: Physiology and Pathology of Young Farm Animals, Physiology and Pathology of Small Animals, Physiology and Ethology of Birds, Bird Biology and Pathology.
The main scientific activity of the department is the foundation of a new branch of science - physiology of domestic animals and the Kazan School of Veterinary Physiologists, received recognition at home and abroad. Under Professor K.R. Viktorov's leadership experimental studies on the physiology of birds, digestive, muscular and nervous systems, nerve centers, the transmission of nerve excitation, humoral and reflex regulation of physiological processes and functions of animals were held.
At the department the basic research on a topical issue of Physiology is conducted - the study of patterns of ontogenetic maturation of the interaction principles and the role of neural and humoral regulatory systems in the mechanisms of metabolism optimal intensity, growth, adaptation to the conditions of the period of development, external and internal environment, the conditions of intensive technologies. The methods for correction of functional systems in the changed conditions are developed. The planned study on the regularities of formation, the principles of interaction and the role of adrenergic, cholinergic, serotonergic and histaminergic systems, respectively, AES, HES, SES and HPP in horses, cattle, pigs, dogs, rabbits and birds in the postnatal period of ontogenesis are held.
